time for a long needed update

Ok so here is the lowdown
a. well...my friend asked me to be his best man at his wedding when he gets married shortly after this school year. iv never been a best man at a wedding before, is there anything i need to know or do? some advice would be greatly appreciated!
b. i will be leaving in a couple of months to go up to peters burg, Alaska to go to work in the peters burg fishery, so i wont be on during that time.
any comments, tips, or suggestions on either topics would be nice and helpful!
